Full Description

Remains of St Peters Church or Drumdelgie Parish Church. it was suppressed circa 1615 although the church, first mentioned in 1230, was still usable in 1640. It was ruinous by the later 19th century, although the foundations were then entire. RCAHMS site visit 1990 recorded the remains. Built of rubble granite and fieldstones, the walls generally stand between 0.6m and 1m high, although the west gable standing to height of 2.5m. Internally the church measures 14.6m by 5.6m. The interior has been used for burial. The font has been preserved in the vestibule of present parish church. Graveyard no longer in use. The thin mortared wall of the burial ground stands on much broader boulder foundations on the east. There are at least two 18th century gravestones, but the rest appear to be 19th century.
