Full Description
An early-mid 19th century mill complex with later additions and alterations. It is built on the site of an earlier mill. The main A-listed building is a tall 2-storey and attic, 2 by 3 bay rubble block double gabled mill, with a projecting kiln to the east forming an L and a lean-to wheel house sheltering the wheel at the rear to the west. It is constructed of squared grey granite, with tooled granite dressings. The entrance is in the east gable, with a loft door above. There is an 8-spoke, wood and iron mid-breast paddle wheel, a mill dam and lade. The wheel was built by Barry, Henry and Cook from Aberdeen. There is regular fenestration with 8-pane glazing and a slate roof. There is a pagoda louvred cupola to the kiln. Inside, the machinery is intact. There is a C-listed 19th century cottage and steading, an early 20th century cottage and a B-listed 19th century 2-storey 4-bay rectangular granary. The mill and kiln were fully restored in 1987-88, and is in working order.
Period Notes
Built in the early-mid 19th century. The granary was converted to restaurant in 1986, and the mill and kiln was restored 1987-8. The site was designated in 24/03/1988.
