Full Description

Remains of a farmstead, comprising L-plan range and garden with mill pond and lade to the north-west, depicted on the OS 1st edition map. A rectangular building had been added to the southwest of the range by the 2nd edition map. Only one building is shown on the present map to the west of a forest track. Forestry Commission site visit recorded the latter, a 19th century stone cottage standing beside a track. Building recording of the building remaining on the site structure was carried out by FCS in 2013 prior to demolition. This is an early 20th century two-storey cottage with cellar. The building measures externally 12.2m from east-southeast to west-northwest by 4.9m transversely. It is constructed of faced rubble and mortar and bears a slate roof with concrete skews. The front door is on the south-southwest side and is flanked by two large windows. A cellar window is visible at ground level to the west-northwest of the door. There are two small windows on the rear (north-northeast) side. The L-shaped range to the N is now reduced to low grass covered footings. The remains were surveyed by CFA in 2013 ahead of a proposed access road for Clashindarrach wind farm. Subsequent watching brief for the road recorded a ditch (possibly mill lead) from the pond.
