Full Description

Farmstead, still in use. On the 1st edition OS map it was named Backstripes and comprised a U-plan steading open to the east with a small building on the east side of the court. To the south was a rectangular pond with a sluice and lade leading to the south wing of the steading. By the time of the 2nd edition OS map an L-plan house had been added to the north of the steading and the farmstead was named Gordonsburn and Backstripes. Current maps indicate that the layout of buildings remains unchanged, although the pond has been infilled. Level 1 standing building survey carried out by S. Farrell in January 2009, prior to redevelopment of the steading. The survey concluded that the steading dates to the late 1850s, and has seen major alterations throughout its use, with most of the original features having been removed.
