Full Description
Remains of two adjoining buildings, or a house and enclosure, lie within forestry area. The OS 2nd edition map (revised 1900) shows an attached sheepfold at the southwest end (it does not appear on the 1st edition, surveyed 1856-7). Only the sheepfold, which appears to be partly roofed, is depicted on the OS 1st edition map. Building recording was carried out by Forestry Commission in 2013 prior to demolition. This is a late 19th century roofed stock-shed measuring externally 33.4 m from northeast to southwest by 10.1 m transversely over a faced rubble and mortar wall standing 1.5 m in height. There is a doorway in the southeast side and a wider entrance in both ends. The building abuts an earlier circular sheepfold on the southwest end. At the time of the survey the majority of the structure had a decaying timber framed corrugated iron roof which measured 6.8m in width (the northwest side is open).
