Description

West of the road the finds are most densely concentrated in the north east and east of the two fields. Metal detecting finds from 2014 (TT91/13 ELGNM: 2014.24) include: lead shot, lead counters, lead tokens, copper alloy pot sherds, copper alloy mount, and decorated window lead. Metal detecting find from 2016 (ELGNM: 2016.35): fragment of a horse harness fitting. Metal detecting finds from 2016 (TT227/15 ELGNM: 2016.28): strap end fragments, copper alloy pot fragments, decorated spindle whorls, lead weights, a jetton, a book clasp, cup weights, window lead and glass, thimbles, copper alloy studs and mounts, a lead seal, buckles, lead counters or tokens, a number of horse harness pendants (one with a lion rampant), a gilded belt attachment and an enamelled heraldic pendant inset with fleur de lis motifs. Metal detecting finds from 2016/2017 (ELGNM: 2017.17.1-6 TT234/16): harness pendant. East of the road a flint blade or scraper and a second worked flint were found in the area of a cropmark (MAB63447) in 2016 by a metal detectorist (ELGNM: 2016.36.2). Metal detecting in this field in 2016 recovered: two lead tokens decorated with 'A' shape symbols, possibly a square and compasses symbol (ELGNM: 2016.40); a belt hook, lead weights, copper alloy pot fragments and feet, a button, a zoomorphic swivel, lead tokens, a miniature lead axehead, lead pot mends, buckles, a mount and a decorated lead heart (ELGNM: 2016.28); and a copper alloy swivel ring, thought to be for a hunting dog leash (TT09/16 ELGNM: 2016.32). Metal detecting in the same area in 2017 (TT103/17 ELGNM: 2017.23) recovered: a 14th-15th Century annular sword belt buckle, a number of lead shot (one of small calibre, another which had struck an object), lead counters, a cloth seal, a lead weight and a 17th Century belt mount.
