Description

The remaining NE quadrant of the cairn was excavated. Across the crest of the mound, just below the topsoil were five skeletons, the remains of a larger group whose bones had been disinterred in 1971. A badly damaged cist was found near the skeletons. Three cairns were discovered beneath the mound, the west one excavated in 1972: all three stood on a blackened sand and charcoal layer. A high proportion of Neolithic pottery sherds came from the cairns. Samples taken for radiocarbon dating. Director: A BURL
