Description
The visit recorded no trace of a church earlier than the present 19th Century structure. A complete, Early Christian, stone coffin cover, with a wheel-headed cross incised upon it, was formerly lying in the graveyard, but was found set up against the southern wall of the church. According to Mr. Mackintosh, session clerk, St. Medan's Well was a spring-well situated on a hill-slope 'some 50 yds south of the cottage of the southwest of the church (circa NO 333 549). The ground was improved within living memory, and there was no trace of the well.
